P.S. Collective copyright management is provided by state organizations and they represent performance and mechanical rights in most countries of the world. For example, in the United States of America, such organizations represent performance rights only.

What are Synchronization and Mechanical Rights?

Whether you are a member of a collective management organization or not, you can entrust us with the management of your synchronization and mechanical rights.

Synchronization Rights

When someone uses (or wants to use) your musical work in their audiovisual content—such as a film, commercial, or even a simple YouTube video—they must obtain permission from the author or copyright holder of the musical work. Unlike collectively managed rights, synchronization rights are granted on an individual basis, through a direct agreement between the rights holder and the user. This means the rights holder (or their representative, such as a music publisher) personally negotiates the terms. In other words, the author decides whether to license the work, under what conditions, for which territories, and for how long.

Mechanical Rights

Mechanical rights are the rights of authors to receive payment whenever their composition is reproduced—originally on physical formats (CDs, vinyl), but today this includes digital reproductions, such as downloads and streams. For every stream or download, the author is entitled to a mechanical royalty—in addition to the royalties paid to performers and producers for the sound recording (master rights).

What is music publishing?

Music Publishing on YouTube refers to the management of copyrights related to musical compositions (lyrics and melody) used on the platform.

A music publisher (such as IMPERIA Publishing) represents songwriters and composers, ensuring they receive royalties when their music is used on the digital platform YouTube.
